Hi everyone. I have an iPhone 5, and it is having problems downloading iOS 7.1.1. I've tried closing and reopening settings, turning the phone off and back on, plugging and unplugging the phone, and didn't know if anyone might have other suggestions. Everything is fine up until I tap the agree button for terms and conditions. Then the phone brings up the dimmed downloading button. After afew minutes an error message comes up saying: Software update failed. An error occured downloading iOS 7.1.1. Following the message are a close button and a settings button. Thank you for any help.

Hi, do you trying to update using wifi or using mobile data?
Also, have you try update using iTunes instead?

The next update will fix the dictation bug with vo that drains the battery? I spent 2
months working with that deal and yesterday i got my local apple store to finally get
excited and send multiple data sets to engineering so i am happilly positive that next
update it will be fixed. Kudas to the person on apple vis that figured it out.

Typically that error means one of several things:
- Plug your device into its charger, and wait until it is over 50% charged.
- Make sure wifi is on, just like Pina Colada said.
Close all apps in the background just so your system has all the resources it needs.
Then try again. If you still get the error, you may need to wait for a bit, as the servers may be at or near capacity.
Also, make sure you have at least 2, hopefully 3, bars of wifi connectivity.

Can't think of any other suggestions beyond what's been given here. If you've tried all these and it still doesn't work, I'd call Apple. I think it's 800-692-7753. Spells out My Apple.

This typically happens when the connection times out at your end or Apple's. Best way to make sure you get it is to do this on Wifi. Doing this with mobile data, especially wen you're mobile, is just asking for an issue. Alternatively, as Joanne suggested, plug your iDevice in to your computer and do the update via iTunes. I haven't had to do this since iOS 4, but have heard other instances where this was necessary. Also, if you're a Bluetooth keyboard user, you will most likely enjoy the update.

If all the suggestions fail, accept calling Apple, they'll tell you to reset the device. This is best done using iTunes for a blind person, because when the phone rrestarts, you'll need to turn on the accessibility features, meaning Voice Over, and whatever else you use.
